Fighting for Jamaica on the World Stage
Jamaica has a proud boxing tradition — from the amateur rings of Trench Town to the professional ranks. But our Olympic boxing programme has been chronically underfunded. While other Caribbean nations send fully prepared teams to qualifiers, our boxers often arrive without adequate sparring partners, nutrition plans, or international competition experience.
The Preparation Plan
This fund will support a 12-month intensive programme for Jamaica's top 6 Olympic-weight boxers. The plan includes a 3-month residential training camp at the GC Foster College of Physical Education, international sparring tours to Cuba and the Dominican Republic, sports science support (nutritionist, physiotherapist, strength coach), and competition entry fees for 4 qualifying tournaments.
Budget
- Residential training camp (3 months) — J$2,000,000
- International sparring tours — J$1,800,000
- Coaching staff — J$1,200,000
- Sports science and nutrition — J$800,000
- Competition travel and entry fees — J$700,000
- Equipment and gear — J$500,000
